Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!
The Department of Computer and Information Science was founded in 1983 but its roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in northern Europe.
Our research covers a broad spectrum of fields, from core to applied computer sciences. Its vast scope also benefits our undergraduate and graduate programmes, and we now teach courses in several engineering programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as the programmes in statistics, cognitive science and innovative programming.

We are looking for a programmer (tekniker) 50%-100% in computer science/computer engineering at the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA), Programming Environments Laboratory (PELAB), research group for compiler technology and parallel computing.
Your future work assignments
We are looking for a skilled programmer for a part-time ”tekniker” position with at least 50% within a larger research and development project. The project work can, under certain circumstances, be combined with an internal master thesis project (which requires ongoing master studies at Linköping University) related to the project’s topic area. Depending on specific qualifications, the position percentage can be extended with various teaching tasks (lab assistant, group supervision) to up to 100% in total, by agreement. The position is time-limited (see below); afterwards there will, under certain conditions, be an opportunity to apply for an extension period.
The project tasks include programming of advanced system software (C/C++ based) for heterogeneous distributed computer systems, assistance in running experiments, and system administration for the project’s special hardware (such as GPU servers, Raspberry-Pi, network components etc.) and local development servers. The project’s overall goal is the development of new software technology for the development, synthesis, optimization, deployment and orchestration of the next generation of adaptive software for effective and secure execution in dynamic, distributed edge-cloud-system. The work can also include technical meetings with our industry partners in the project.
Your future workplace
Your work place is at the Department for Computer and Information Science (IDA) with about 220 employees in total. In the research project you will work together with 5 professors and 4 PhD students. The project work language is English. If applicable, possible teaching tasks will be mostly in courses at the division for Software and Systems (SaS).
A formal requirement is a bachelor degree in computer science, computer engineering or similar discipline, which must be completed upon taking up the position. The work requires very good programming skills in modern C/C++ and good familiarity with Linux (system administration and programming). The successful candidate is expected to be able to work independently, and to communicate freely in English in writing and speech. A certain background in compiler technology and in programming parallel and heterogeneous computer systems is also welcome. A position at part-time above 50% or at full-time involves also teaching tasks and there we expect completed courses with decent grades in programming, algorithms, operating systems, computer architecture, software engineering and network programming, preferably also some advanced-level courses in computer science / computer engineering.
Form of employment
The position is time-limited to 11 months, with a percentage between 50% and up to 100%, by agreement.
The start date is by agreement, preferably 1 september 2022.
Salary and employment benefits
The university applies individual salaries. Please indicate salary demands in the application.
